[ a linha ] was one of the selected projects for the programme BIP/ZIP 2012 run by Câmara Municipal de Lisboa (Lisbon’s Municipality). It consists of a series of routes that intend to promote different ways of getting from Rio Tejo to Campo de Sta. Clara, in Alfama. Along those routes one should encounter several micro urban interventions that intend to guide the visitor, and local residents, through the neighbourhood in an engaging way taking advantage of the wonderfully scenic places Alfama has for one to discover.
[ a linha ] is made up of 4 lines (green, red, blue & yellow) with a diverse spatial and programatic offer developed with local children and residents of the neighbourhood through several workshops and outdoors events. When overlapped, the different lines work as new mechanisms for the rehabilitation of public space.
The project has the support of local partners (the three Local Authorities, Agrupamento de Escolas Gil Vicente, Voz do Operário, ATLA, Bunker de Alfama, GEBALIS and GTPWA) gathering a cohesive group of participants who became ambassadors of the project.
All the design and construction process of [ a linha ] involved the participation of local people. The installations were built by builders from the neighbourhood and only using reclaimed timber and old furniture that was adapted and recreated into new temporary constructions.
The project started in June 2012 and the official opening, i.e. placement on site of the different installations, happened in March 2013. During the following months the installations were used, but with the city’s festivities in June most were relocated or vandalized.
The programme of activities to keep the project alive is opened to all who wish to participate. Contact us through the email atelier@atelierurbannomads.org.
